Aiming

When someone is wearing glasses, the Sandman cannot shoot his sand (1) _________ into the eyes. This is (a) ___ a minor problem for him. Amiért különösen szeretem az efféle dolgokat a tanításban használni - figyelemfelkeltés, agyserkentés probléma? Megoldva! Uncsi volt az előző óra olvasási anyaga? Bit of a yawn - a tanárok ellensége. A nevetés viszont nem.

Egy felhasználási javaslat máris: csupán elméleti szinten, vegyük pl a 25. mondatot: 25- A midget fortune-teller who escapes from prison is a small medium at large.A feladat lehet a mondat tanári szétválasztását követően (ez ugye éppen az is szóra esik) kiadni feladatul, hogy, természetesen szótár segítségével, keressék meg a három szinoníma-párt, amire a vicc épül. A kettős jelentéseket ezt követően egyenként beszéljük meg. (Itt ugye: midget - small; fortune-teller - medium; escaping from prison - at large).

Ha nem teljesen kezdőkkel csináljuk, aminek nincs sok értelme ebben az esetben, elsőre ugyan a megmagyarázott poén érzését keltheti, de mivel nyelvet tanulunk, ez nem nagy gond. Nincs annál szebb, mint amikor valaki felnyerít két perccel (vagy órával, esetleg nappal) később, mert neki éppen akkor esett le. :D

Word Stress Patterns in English

In multi-syllable words the stress falls on one of the syllables while the other syllables tend to be spoken over quickly. This leads to sounds that are not clear (muted) on unstressed syllables. In order to improve your pronunciation, focus on pronouncing the stressed syllable clearly. However, don't be afraid to "mute" (not say clearly) the other unstressed vowels. You may use these examples, or may feel the specific need of coming up with some of your own examples, based on the level and requirements of your students.

Unstressed syllables keep the correct sound, but sound muted. Sometimes, unstressed vowels become a schwa sound - like a soft "uh" sound.

With this in mind, here are the eight common word stress patterns in English.

Egy korábbi kérésnek teszek eleget, amikor megosztom ezt a kedves momentumot a kedves kollégákkal:

"Sorry, I can't hear nothing. Who are you? Ein moment."

Bizony, bizony, így is fogadhat egy magyar (a példánkban az volt) egy "üzleti típusú hívást", amit aztán a fénynél is sebesebben le kellene passzolni valakinek, mert én csak németül beszélek (ami persze valószínűleg hasonló önámítás), ez meg itten nem, szóval van itt valaki, hahó, segítség!!!

Ilyet, és ehhez hasonlót sajnos túlságosan is gyakran tapasztalok az üzleti világban. A nyelvórákon pedig, de javítsatok, ki, ha valaki ennek általánosan az ellenkezőjét tapasztalta, akár évekig elő sem kerül egyetlen élő telefonos szituációs gyakorlás. Nem valami bárgyú párbeszéd felolvasása, hanem a mobil-a-kézbe típusú húsbavágó gyakorlás, profin előkészítve, stb.

Ezért most kezdjük a legelején, hogy miket is használunk egy angol nyelvű telefonos beszélgetés során, mielőtt valaki elkezdené lefordítani a magyar gondolatait, bele egyenesen a gyanútlan és ártatlan telefonkagylóba. Kedves tanár kollégák, ezt meg lehet, és meg is kell tanítani. Először magunknak. :D

Around the world

Starting at one of the ___ poles, the Sandman and Suzanne fly all around the world in ___ lightning galloping leaps, over cities, little harbor towns, villages -in fact, they pass over every place in the world in all weather: snow, freezing cold, tropical heat, thunder and rain.

They even visit the most (1) ___________ farmhouses. Of course, as he goes by the Sandman also includes the animals outside the house, although rabbits and hares - being ___ nocturnal animals - will stay awake ___ until the dawn.

The Sandman ___ takes this into account and gives them (2) ________-action sand. His leather bag has a special ___ compartment for nocturnal animal sand.
Once inside the house he throws sand in each person's eyes in one shot, taking care, of course, that the ___ delaying factor in each grain is suited, to (3) _____________ bedtimes. A feladatok ismerősek, de van egy újítás, L1-wise - ami egy általam igen ritkán használt módszer, de azért néha előveszem. Ilyenkor a feladatból -általában kifejezésekre koncentrálva- megadok néhány információt magyarul, de sosem közvetlenül kapcsolva, hanem még mindig meghagyva a feladatot, hogy azért kelljen azzal dolgozni.

Most is ezt tettem, és persze ebben az a felhasználhatóság sokoldalúsága, hogy lehet fordítási készségeket is javíztani így: miért éppenígy került "magyarításra" az adott kifejezés, hogyan változtatta meg a közvetlen szövegkörnyezet az esetleges szótári alakot, stb. Természetesen sokkal egyszerűbb kifejezések is kiemelhetőek, hasonló módszerrel.

Egészen fiataloknak (9-10 éveseknek), vagy egészen kezdőknek elég, ha kivesszük a fejléc szavait (flag, car plate, ...), és összekeverjük, ők pedig visszaillesztik őket. Kortól és érettségtől függően pedig gyakorlatilag bármit kivehetünk, összekeverhetünk a táblázatban, majd indulhat a beszélgetés is - kedvenc ország, valaki járt-e már valamelyikben, stb.

Namost, a felhasználást illetően egy ilyen kvíz esetében érthető a kétkedés, ha kicsiny hazánkat, és az abban dúló oktatást vesszük alapul. Véleményem szerint azonban egy kvíz nem annyira tudás felmérésére, mint inkább játékra, tanulásra való. Ennek szellemében én a tanulóimat például hagyom, hogy ezt a kvízsort az internet segítségével oldják meg. Úgy sem gyerekjáték, hiszen comprehension + key words + computer skills + references + filtering + akármi. Ha azonban így legalább annyit elértünk, hogy a tanulók 15 percet foglalkoznak angol nyelvű, irodalommal kacsolatos kutatással, már többet tettünk, mint velünk tettek anno orosz tagozaton.

Ezekkel a sorszámokkal szerepel e három szó azon a listán, mely az ezer leggyakoribb (leggyakrabban használt) angol szót gyűjti össze.

A lista ITT található.Egy ilyen listát számos különböző módon lehet felhasználni az órákon. Pl. kiadjuk feladatként, hogy kettesével készítsenek egy tízes listát a szerintük 10 leggyakoribb szóról, csak úgy, saját kútfőből, majd jöhet az összehasonlítás.

Egy másik lehetőség, hogy megadunk nekik 20 szót, vagy harmincat a listáról (nyilván össze-vissza érdemes), majd hasonló feldolgozás.

Esetleg egy adott autentikus szöveget adunk nekik, hogy abban keressék meg a vagy kiadott, vagy a feladat végéig el nem árult 3, 5, stb leggyakoribb szót; illetve hogy egy véletlenszerűen választott szöveg tükrözi-e a táblázatot, és ha nem, miért lehet mondjuk olyan nagy különbség a beszélt és az írott nyelv között, stb, stb...
