WhimsicalLL

Beszélsz nyelveken? Vajon kinek mi a titka?

Itt megtalálhatod a lakóhelyedhez legközelebbi ilyen lehetőséget: Ingyenes angol

Just for fun, as always

...meg persze azért is, mert ezekkel a kis fejtörőkkel mindig jól be lehet melegíteni a skacokat egy kis nyelvi gyakorláshoz:

What is as big as you are and yet does not weigh anything?

Paul’s height is six feet, he’s an assistant at a butcher’s shop, and wears size 9 shoes. What does he weigh?

When you have me, you feel like sharing me. But, if you do share me, you don’t have me. What am I?

A cowboy rode into town on Friday, stayed three days, and rode out again on Friday. How did he do that?

The person who makes it has no need for it. The person who purchases it does not use it. The person who does use it does not know he or she is. What is it?

It is an insect, and the first part of its name is the name of another insect. What is it?

2 fathers and 2 sons go fishing. Each of them catches one fish. So why do they bring home only 3 fishes?

You can hold it without using your hands or arms. What is it?

What do the letter ‘t’ and an island have in common?

Which is the word in English that has nine letters, and remains a word at each step even when you remove one letter from it, right up to a single letter remaining. List each letter as you remove them, along with the resulting word at each step.

Complete this sequence of letters: o, t, t, f, f, s, s, _, _, _.

Ha valakinek pedig itt helyben van kedve agyalni, várm a google használata nélküli megfejtéseket! :D

Gone mad. Don't ask.

Teaching idea for age 12+, pre-intermediate and up.

A QUICK NOTE - Read Ellen's note to Philip:

Honey,
Will be home late. Sandwiches in the fridge, cookies on the table. See you later. Love, Ellen

When you leave a quick note for someone, you sometimes do not write complete sentences. You also use shorter forms of some words. For example, in Ellen's note, several words are missing. Also, she used the word fridge, an informal way to say refrigerator. With complete sentences, Ellen might have written this:

Dear Philip,
I will be home late. There are sandwiches in the refrigerator and cookies on the table. I'll see you later. Love, Ellen
or
Dear Philip,
I will be home late. I left some sandwiches in the refrigerator and some cookies on the table. i'll see you later. Love, Ellen

2; Here is a note that you might leave for your boss.

John,
had to leave early. Needed to catch train. Letters on desk. Need immediate attention. Will not be in office tomorrow. But will call in a.m.
Jim

Possible classroom tasks: rewrite the note in complete sentences. Be sure that each sentence has a subject, and add all necessary articles (a, an, or the). Add possessive pronouns (for example, my, your) before nouns, if needed. Create notes that can still be simplified without losing sense, and work on them in groups. Works all the way round.

Out of small things

What do a field mouse and a grizzly bear have in common? Did you know that the wake-robin has a foul aroma, and it blooms in the spring about the time robins return?

Here you can find handouts on these seemingly unimportant issues to help bring students closer to some things that shold not be forgotten - as I see it, and for this reason did I make them. All are own designs.

Speak English like an American_01

Új sorozat, egy nagyszerű könyvből. Nyelvtanároknak és tanulóknak egyaránt.

LESSON 1

BOB'S DAY AT WORK

Bob works as a manager in a furniture store. Peter, his boss, is not happy about sales. Bob's new advertising campaign hasn't helped. Peter decides to fire him.

Peter: Bob, I hate to break the news, but our sales were down again last month.
Bob: Down again, Peter?
Peter: Yeah. These days, everybody's shopping at our competition, Honest Abe's Furniture Store.
Bob: But everything in there costs an arm and a leg!
Peter: That's true. They do charge top dollar.
Bob: And their salespeople are very strange. They really give me the creeps!
Peter: Well, they must be doing something right over there. Meanwhile, we're about to go belly-up.
Bob: I'm sorry to hear that. I thought my new advertisin campaign would save the day.
Peter: Let's face it: your advertising campaign was a real flop.
Bob: Well then I'll go back to the drawing board.
Peter: It's too late for that. You're fired!
Bob: What? You're giving me the ax?
Peter: Yes. I've already found a new manager. She's as sharp as a tack.
Bob: Can't we even talk this over? After all, I've been working here for 10 years!
Peter: There's no point in arguing, Bob. I've already made up my mind.
Bob: Oh well, at least I won't have to put up with your nonsense anymore! Good-bye to you and good-bye to this dead-end job.
Peter: Please leave before I lose my temper!

Skinnification

Neologisms from 2003:

- heirhead
The Simple Life, in which the pampered Paris Hilton and best friend and fellow 'heirhead' Nicole Richie, daughter of pop star Lionel Richie, swap the Beverly Hills and New York party circuits for 30 days working on an Arkansas farm, was panned by critics yet still attracted 13 million viewers.

- Svengali-Goran
Arsene Wenger is Gary Numan. Gerard Houlier is Dido. Gazza is Elvis. Graham Taylor is Slaughter & The Dogs. Tord Grip and Svengali-Goran Eriksson (see what I did there?) are Bjorn and Benny from Abba.

- emo-rock
As with 2001's Love Is Here, their brand of emo-rock makes much of the lavish arrangement (Spectorean strings and bells are just the start) and the pregnant pause, all weighted for maximum tremulousness.

- psuedo-presidentialism
Blair was tempted into psuedo-presidentialism by the apparent personal power of the American presidency and by Thatcher's tabloid ambition to put the ' great ' back into Great Britain.

- frumpsville
The Guardian, however, counselled against going too retro. You do need to inject a little modern attitude or you 're on a one-way ticket to frumpsville.

A kamionos fél-bél bosszúja
