Madame Holle stopped and stared at us with penetrating eyes. Nobody-nobody at all-will get through my barrier of snow and fog, not even the Keep-awakes!"
"Who are they?" we asked.
"They are the ones who try to keep people from sleeping. They are forever at work trying to undo what the Sandman (10) _____________, and they'd like nothing better than to cut him (11) ____________ from his supply of sand. But they'll never get past me. I'll tell you more about them later."
